Paws at Home Pet Care Co. was formed in 2012 by mother-daughter team, Polly Thiel and Amanda Young.
Amanda Young first started working in a boarding facility in 1996, at age 14. She did in home pet sitting while obtaining an Associates Degree in Business Administration at AIB College of Business. After trying the corporate world, Amanda realized that her true passion was with animals and returned to work in a veterinary hospital. She and her husband have two dogs and one cat. Savannah is their happy yellow lab, and Tess is an eleven year old retriever mix and a total mamma's girl! Amanda and her husband welcomed a baby girl into their family in September 2014.
Polly Thiel left her full-time job in July 2012 to join her daughter in creating Paws at Home Pet Care Co. Polly began working in the pet boarding industry in 1996 and has managed two different facilities in the Des Moines area, caring for thousands of pets over the years. She was also actively involved in a national trade association of pet care providers. Those experiences taught her a great deal and led back to the more personal and individual concept of in-home pet care. She has a great appreciation and understanding of the bond between people and pets, and a special interest in dog behavior and group play. Polly and her husband, Tom, also own a sandwich and ice cream shop, Fiss', located in Carlisle. They share their home with Nolan, a chocolate Labrador; Bogey, a Clumber Spaniel; and three cats.
